Spring School for students from Drexel University, Philadelphia

From 20th to 24th March 2017, 10 American lecturers and students came to Université de Rennes 1 for a Spring School at the Faculty of Law and Political Science.

An agreement was recently signed between Université de Rennes 1 and Drexel University, Philadelphia, and the starting point of the cooperation was the Spring School at the Faculty of Law and Political Science from 20th to 24th March 2017.

Students participated in three lectures and cultural visits spread over the 4 days.

The subjects of the lectures were:

  • Tort law, given by Dr Stathis Banakas
  • The French judicial system, given by Dr Anne Donnier
  • European comparative law, given by Dr Isabelle Rueda

The Spring School was the opportunity for the students to discover renowned regional heritage in both Brittany and Normandy and to discover Rennes and Breton culture, with a presentation of the city organised by students of Université de Rennes 1.

Representatives of Drexel University and Université de Rennes 1 - Professor Frédéric Lambert, Dean of the faculty of Law and Political Science; Professor Robert I. Field, Drexel University; Dr Annie Soriot, Director of the International Affairs Department; Professor Philippe Pierre, Director of International Relations at the Faculty of Law and Political Science.

 

Université de Rennes 1 and the USA

Université de Rennes 1 has 10 cooperation agreements with 8 American universities, half of which concern student mobility.

Research mobility is also active. There were 115 missions in the USA, including conferences and colloquiums, in the academic year 2015-2016. Université de Rennes 1 was awarded the Franco-American academic cooperation Univ-link badge of excellence in 2011, a MESR (the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research) badge of excellence. The university was awarded for its cooperation with the University of Arizona which saw the creation of the International Associated Laboratory for Materials and Optics (LIA-MATEO) in January 2009. It is also part of a second International Associated Laboratory, Ecological and Evolutionary Genomics of Polyploidy (LIA-ECOGEN) with the Iowa State University.

Université de Rennes 1 is currently involved in the Groupement d'Intérêt Scientifique Institut des Amériques (GIS IDA). It brings together lecturer-researchers and researchers working on the Americas and belonging to different teams in Rennes' academic centres.

The university has awarded 7 American professors with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa since 2000.
