After training at the IUT in Lannion, part of Université de Rennes 1, Loup Bureau graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism in 2011.
The 27 year old has been in prison in Turkey since 26 July 2017 where he is under investigation for “participation in a terrorist group”. The reason for this charge according to his support committee? “A report by Loup in 2013 for TV5 Monde on the militia known as the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) which Turkey regards as a terrorist group”.
At the beginning of August the teaching staff of the Information-Communication department of the IUT in Lannion reacted to his arrest:
“His arrest, which follows that of Olivier Bertrand and Mathias Depardon, is a reminder of how difficult the profession of journalist can be, especially in places where the freedom to inform is impeded”.
Several journalist and press freedom organisations have gone into action and have called for his immediate release.
The president of the university and his team have joined this appeal. They give their wholehearted support to Loup, his family and friends.
