A delegation from Université Sidi Mohammed Ben Abdellah – USMBA in Fez, Morocco, made up of Professor Omar Assobhei, President of the USMBA, Professor Mohamed Bokbot, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, Professor Mustapha Ijaali, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Professor Sidi Adil Ibrahimi, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy and Mr. Yahya Benabdellah, a city of Fez official spent two days at Université de Rennes 1 on 23th and 24th January 2017. This was the opportunity to discover activities in innovation and entrepreneurship through discussions with the Foundation Rennes 1 and visits to a Rennes start-up and La French Tech Rennes St Malo as well as to discuss academic partnerships.

Indeed, Université de Rennes 1 has a long history with Morocco. The university has 5 cooperation agreements with 5 Moroccan universities to date. Three delocalised training courses in partnership with the IGR - IAE Graduate school of management have strengthened academic ties. Moroccan students represent one of the highest numbers of students on individual mobility at Université de Rennes 1. Teaching mobility is also active with, for example, around 10 lecturers going to either the Institut Supérieur d'Ingenierie de Fès or the Institut Supérieur du Génie Appliquée de Casablanca last year on a teaching mission.

On Monday, they attended a presentation by Dr. Sophie Langouët-Prigent, Vice President of Partnerships and Business relations of Université de Rennes 1 and Vice-president of the Foundation Rennes 1, which was followed by visits to a Rennes start-up, Klaxoon and La French Tech Rennes St Malo. The mission of La French Tech is to accelerate local startups in France and internationally. La French Tech Rennes St Malo is a non-profit making organisation which implements the project at local level.

The delegation at La French Tech

 

On Tuesday, the delegation spent the morning in the presence of Professor Pierre van de Weghe, Vice President in charge of international relations, Dr. Annie Soriot, Director of the International Affairs Department and Professor Sylvie Odent from the Faculty of Medicine.

The visit continued with a meeting at Rennes Town Hall in the presence of the Deputy Mayor, Ms. Jocelyne Bougeard, who was able to discuss the City of Fez with Mr. Yahya Benabdellah and share thoughts on city development.

An official dinner with the delegation ended the visit in the presence of Ms. Malika Fathi, Consul-General of Morocco in Rennes, Mr. Taoufik Zriouat, Deputy Consul-General of Morocco in Rennes and the presidents of Université de Rennes 1, Professor David Alis, and Université de Rennes 2, Professor Olivier David.
