Frédérique Vidal was appointed Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation on 17th May 2017

She became President of Université de Nice-Sophia-Antipolis (UNS) in April 2012 and was reelected in April 2016 for a second term of 4 years. University Professor in Life Sciences, she had previously been Director of the Faculty of Science.

Frédérique Vidal

Following a Master's degree in Biochemistry at UNS, a DEA at the Institut Pasteur (with an option in fundamental virology) and a PhD in Life Sciences at UNS, Frédérique Vidal joined Université de Nice in 1995 as a Senior Lecturer. In charge of internships, then Deputy Director to the Magistère in Pharmacology, she became a Professor in 2004, and managed the Life Sciences department of UNS from 2005 to 2008. Deputy Director of the Faculty of Sciences from 2007 to 2009, she was elected Director of the faculty in 2009. External member of the INSERM Regional Scientific Advisory Board from 1999 to 2003, Frédérique Vidal has been a member of the jury for the Master's degree in Virology at the UPMC-Paris 7-Institut Pasteur since 2004.

She co-managed the European project Tempus to set up the LMD (Licence/Master/Doctorat) in the Balkans from 2006 to 2009. Expert for the AERES (Agence d’Évaluation de la Recherche et de l'Enseignement Supérieur) since 2007, and for the EU in the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean University (Emuni) since 2010, she has been an invited member entitled to speak and vote of the Faculty of Medicine Scientific Commission since 2010, and of the European project Tempus.
