What is cybersecurity?
Cybersecurity is the security of information systems. This means almost all the devices in our environment which are equipped with a minimum computing capacity: computers, smart phones, tablet computers, key fobs, smart cards, connected and automated objects, etc. Cybersecurity doesn't simply apply to the internet!
This entire system is only secure if all the information which passes through objects and digital networks is kept confidential, authentic and that origin and ownership are respected. As well as data protection for individuals, businesses, associations and institutions, cybersecurity also involves cyberdefence and plays an important role in state security.
The cybersecurity chain is often considered to be as strong as its weakest link. Guaranteed cybersecurity concerns the entire digital world’s activities: equipment, software, networks and also developer and user training. All digital activities must adhere to a relevant legal framework which guarantees individual freedom and intellectual property.
The Université de Rennes 1 has the particularity of covering all the links of the cybersecurity chain, with its on-site partners and the Pôle d’excellence cyber.
Via this website, which includes text, photos, videos and applications, you'll discover the research that has been carried out in cybersecurity on all the university campuses, in link with training offered to students.

Cybersecurity: a new area for strengthening the partnership between with Australia and Université de Rennes 1
Research cooperation with Australia and Université de Rennes 1 has been in existence since 2003. A delegation, including His Excellency Stephen Brady, Australian Ambassador to France, visited Université de Rennes 1 on 6th September 2016. The purpose of the delegation was to present the current cooperation in teaching and research, discover the campus and to explore new areas and scientific fields for strengthening our partnership, such as cybersecurity.
More information about the visit can be found here.
