Following an opening speech by the president of the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) Mr Abdellatif Miraoui, the strategy of the AUF for the coming four years was presented. Mr Abdellatif Miraoui and Mr Jean-Paul de Gaudemar, Chancellor of the AUF, described the three major challenges to be addressed by the higher education and research institutions which are members of the network:

  • the quality of training, research and governance;
  • employabilty and professional integration of graduates;
  • local and global development of societies.

This strategy aims to see the emergence in the near future of the “Nouvel Espace Universitaire Francophone” (NEUF), which the AUF proposes to build alongside its member institutions.

On an official visit to Morocco, Ms Michaëlle Jean, General Secretary of La Francophonie, congratulated the AUF on their work. In a video message, Hélène David, Minister of Higher Education in Quebec, underlined the importance of digital technology in the development of the French speaking university network.

Professor David Alis, president of Université de Rennes 1 and professor Pierre van de Weghe, Vice President in charge of International Relations, were present the General Assembly. Université de Rennes 1 has a strong background in cooperation (in research, training and mobility) with French speaking countries around the world.
